Newbie questions about upgrading to 4.2 and others

I just recently installed the Homebrew Channel, DVDx, and BootMii as per the Homebrew Channel Setup and had some questions regarding updates. My firmware is 4.1u, and I am going to buy Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Bros today. I have heard that these games require you to update your firmware to 4.2, so I was wondering if I can do this without losing my homebrew channel. If so, could someone explain how I would go about upgrading form 4.1u to 4.2(u?) without losing BootMii, DVDx, Homebrew Channel and Homebrew Browser (the only other app I have downloaded so far). Thanks so much.

The easiest way to do it would be to update the system via the system settings.
