Don't bother upgrading to 4.2 unless you want the features, Bannerbomb will work perfectly on older firmwares and is tested since version 3.0

Yes, you can use DOP-Mii to install System Menu 4.2. You can either get the 4.2 update over internet on your Wii or NUS Downloader on PC. For NUS Downloader, download System Menu 4.2 for your region (For example, USA 4.2 is 4.2U) and the IOS 70 v6687 by using the database menu. and before clicking "Start NUS Download" clicking "Pack -> WAD" and then.... Let me find out...

EDIT: OK, back, and saying: Once you've done that, there should be two new folders in the place you have NUS Downloader, go inside them and copy the two new .wad files to your SD card (not in any folders) Then try to install System Menu 4.2 from DOP-Mii

ok well thank you

Thats what i get from NUS so i think i should have homebrew firmware already installed so i could load BootMii.

--- System Menu ---

The System Menu is a critical part of the Wii boot sequence, and failure to install a proper WAD, failure to install its corresponding IOS module, and many other factors can cause a brick. The only safe way to mess with the System Menu is with BootMii boot2 installed.

-----------
So steps...

1st. Use an exploit to install homebrew channel.
2nd. Then install BootMii
3rd. Download the system menu i want using NUS,
4th. Install it with BootMii
5th. Reinstall homebrew using bannerbomb exploit

Right?

EDIT: Is IOS 70 v6687 safe for PAL version of wii?

1. Use an exploit to install Homebrew Channel and Bootmii/Boot2
2. Make a backup via Bootmii
2. Use NUS Downloader to get WADs of System Menu 4.2E and IOS 70
3. Install them using DOP-Mii (A Homebrew Channel app)
4. Can you access the System Menu? If not, restore the backup you made in part 2. Otherwise, go to 5.
5. ...
6.

You will not have to re-install the Homebrew Channel or Bootmii if you upgrade this way, and all IOS's are region free. I wouldn't do this unless you have Bootmii installed as Boot2, however.

thank you metroid_maniac.
I managed to install Homebrew Channel v1.08 and BootMii as ios because i couldnt install boot2.
So i thought it wouldnt be wise(as you told me before) to upgrade offline using DOP-Mii and ive updated the system online.
I skipped

Everything worked fine and i installed some applications
Gecko os v1.9.3.1 WiMC WiiXplorer and Homebrew Browser
Im now in System Menu 4.3e and IOS37 v22.31
Do you recommend me to change the IOS and what applications should i install to run backup iso from hdd and dvd?

we dont like backups here, so you'll need to ask elsewhere
