I have tried everything, but I am using a 4 gb sd card is this where I'm going wrong

Obviously if you'd really tried "everything" you would already know the answer.

I get as far as the black screen then it says can't find sd or Eli or gekko, does this make sence. Can somebody help me

are you sure your not using a SDHC card, they don't work for exploits. If it is a regular SD card, then try a new one, some cards just aren't compatible.

4GB sounds like an SDHC card. You need a regular SD card 2GB or less

4GB could technically be regular SD I think, but it is highly unlikely. This is most likely your problem. Find a 2GB or smaller SD card (you don't need it permanently, only to install HBC, so you could borrow it from someone) and use that.

SD standard says 2GB is the maximum size for a non-SDHC card. There are a few 4GB cards that can act as either SD or SDHC depending on how they're initialized by the host but obviously they're very non-standard.
