Yes, it works just fine. WiiConnect24 =/= WiFi. You can have WiFi setup without having WiiConnect24 enabled. WC24 just handles the message board etc. Normal online stuff (e.g. shop channel, internet channel, netflix, youtube channel, online multiplayer etc.) works just fine with it disabled.

EDIT: And zombieram, only one thread was necessary. You could very easily have asked both questions in one thread, seeing as they are almost the same anyway. Please refrain from redundant threads in future where possible, thanks.
