What's the best IOS/Menu version?

Is there any specific IOS that all homebrew is compatible with? Or something like that...

Because I'm having problems with apps like Mplayer (all versions) freeze on load - black blank screen.


If there is any, how to install it? Or maybe some that is most popular... I would like to give it a shot (:

I think some apps require different versions but the IOS i think of choice is 30.
