well you know how in terminal (or whatever your command line app is) there is a line like this: _ under the the current input space. That is all i get at the top of the screen.

that sounds bad. very bad. Try booting it normally and making a USB startup disk. it's under Menu bar > System > Administration > Create a USB startup disk.

EDIT: I won't be able to help you now, I'm getting sleepy :-)

I mean in Ubuntu. it lets you install it to a USB drive. it's quite handy, actually.

But ubuntu never installs that's the problem.

What options did you try? Both boot with no changes to PC and also Install?

Here, try this guide : [jdbentley.com] - It uses virtualbox instead of qemu, but its free too, so should be ok.

Booting Ubuntu normally (from CD, not in Virtual Machine etc.) then selecting "Try without change to your computer" will let you do all the things Ubuntu can except updating itself, installing programs, and in that mode it can install to a USB disk. simply select "System" from the top left menu, then "Administration" and "create a USB startup disk. it formats the selected USB drive and installs to it as if it were a Hard drive.

I'm not sure you can boot a live CD on a Mac, I've heard its hard to get into the BIOS and change the boot process. Or something. There's (almost) definetly something.

not really, no. "dur, lets make it so it's nearly impossible to access the BIOS settings" lol. Macs aren't as bad as some make it look though.

well i think that is because the average user has no need to (plus bad things could happen if you screw up the bios somehow) Sorry i love macs!

Edit: wait is there a key that i can press on start up to choose what to boot from? Similar to how you choose to boot from a different drive.
