alternative controllers for homebrew apps

Would it be possible to add support for other console's controllers to homebrew apps? Is it at least possible with a converter that converts a controller extension to gc/usb?

If you can connect a controller to the Wii in some way, it is possible to get homebrew applications to use it.

What about connecting a ps3 controller or xbox 360 controller is that possible or do they communicate differently?

As WikiFSX said, it would be completely possible to use ps3/360 controllers on wii if they were connected through usb, correct?
