Thanks for adding to the discussion, SifJar. Both explanations are pretty similar, since they rely on the IOS doesn't starting any hardware. If someone with a LU64+ tested early revisions of IOS15, it could be nice. I suppose there won't be any damage, if done right. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one tester should have a trucha bugged IOS besides IOS15 (just to be safe).by Aobx - Homebrew General
The only cIOS called that way is a piracy-related one. I highly doubt Wiibrew would be supporting that. In which part of Wiibrew you read that? Anyway, you don't need it. Also, Priiloader can coexist with Bootmii without problems.by Aobx - Homebrew General
I was discussing with jbc007 through PM about an old quote from him: "'LU64+' wiis have new hardware, which is incapable of running old (pre October 23, 2008) IOSes. If an 'LU64+' wii is downgraded to a system menu which uses an old IOS (3.3 and earlier), it will not be able to run the system menu IOS, and will therefore brick." The question was: "If IOS15 v257 is so oldby Aobx - Homebrew General
Could you share the post with me, SifJar? Also, I've tested (as legally as possible) and checked that there is a tmd.bin inside a game's update partition. Does that mean there might be a chance for the system menu to check the region of the update, too? Just as it does while booting the proper game.by Aobx - Homebrew General
NUS stands for Nintendo Update Servers. The virtual place where Nintendo keeps all its upgradable files for its current consoles. IOSes are present on NUS. Apps that work with these files generally have the option to download the file directly from NUS (Dop-Mii does that). If your Wii isn't connected to the Internet, you could use the (Microsoft) Windows application NUS Downloader (reportedlby Aobx - Homebrew General
NUS is the only legal way, then. I had researched something similar to what you said, jbc. It's possible and simple to do, but I prefer not to talk about this, since you'd need to dip your fingers in pirate waters.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Oops, I forgot to add I'm already considered that Priiloader's IOS is changed, thus it has to be reloaded. Maybe I caused you to explain that again. I thought it was just the opposite. Thought Priiloader changed the system menu tmd to set its booting IOS as the one chosen by the user. As Priiloader takes system menu name, boot2 would check the tmd to launch Priiloader with the IOS seby Aobx - Homebrew General
QuoteMickster589So which one would be better to use to get HBC when the new hackmii installer comes out Indiana Pwns or Smash Stack? Both are equally good. Use the one which is easier for you (i.e. one you already have, or can rent or borrow from a friend). The only difference that matters is that Smash Stack works only for american-canadian consoles (region code U),by Aobx - Homebrew General
While reading this topic again and all our discussion about Priiloader, we've made clear that the system menu IOS missing/corrupted isn't much of an issue, as long as Priiloader's booting IOS is fine (thus you can reinstall the system menu IOS). Also, we've made clear that Priiloader's booting IOS must have ES_DiVerify to identify Priiloader's dol as system menu. Supby Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for making that clear. But I've gotten pretty confused about that talk of "savemii and region modded wiis". One case of full brick is having the system menu region different from your area setting in settings.txt. If using Savemii to correct that, the disc would boot based on the system menu region or the area setting in settings.txt? Is there even the possibility for a correction ofby Aobx - Homebrew General
The only way around this is through NUS? Or it can still be done with WUFE?by Aobx - Homebrew General
QuoteI.R.onThere is one just possibility for non modded wiis, it's the case where update is interrupted and you somehow ended up with the executable of the system menu but with no other resource files or with missing resource files... With that case yes you can semi-brick a wii on a non modded wii. But that's not a common case... By this interruption, you could also get a full brick,by Aobx - Homebrew General
Dop-Mii is better, since it gives you so many warnings and information about the IOS you're installing. It's safer and easier to use. SifJar, why does Gecko OS have trouble installing the game IOS from newer discs? Some new protection?by Aobx - Homebrew General
I suppose there might be a risk of bricking, if there is a power outage during the process. Also, it's very likely the disc will come with boot2v4, which is known for causing some problems on older Wiis, but I don't have the knowledge to explain it well.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks, SifJar. It was pretty dumb of me not figuring that out. I don't know why people outside Korea still buy korean Wiis. Everyday it seems more pointless to me.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Maybe I'll try to learn about that later. It's about compiling, and I'm no good at that. By the way, I haven't seen any info about error 003 in firmware 4.3. Wiibrew says a disc with 4.3K update could solve error 003 through recovery menu (savemiifrii?). So I suppose the encryption issue that triggered the error had only to do with IOS70, not IOS80? If I update a 4.1 regionby Aobx - Homebrew General
But aren't some Wiis already shipped with an higher boot2 version than v2? In that case, wouldn't a downgrade in boot2 be necessary? That's why I thought an old boot1 was needed.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for answers, SifJar and SolidMario. By "it's a kind of an exploit" I really meant "a kind", "sort of", not really an exploit, because from the uses I've seen, it can have the same final results than using a real exploit like Indiana Pwns or Smash Stack. I don't know if we are talking about the same tool, maybe I can tell you through PM, but not here, it can really be usedby Aobx - Homebrew General
If I'm running Dop-Mii, then reinstalling the system menu IOS could be done even without Bootmii/boot2, right? I think you can, since Dop-Mii does not necessarily use the system menu IOS (most likely a patched IOS36). So as long as the system menu IOS isn't reloaded, you're fine even without it. However, you must have it installed by the time you turn off the Wii or reload the systby Aobx - Homebrew General
Yeah, I know that. It's just I'm curious about every solution, even the less recommended ones. I don't know if it's supported, probably not, because I've seen it used for piracy, but there's a kind of a custom boot2, you should know what I'm talking about. The fact it's using MINI means it can bypass IOSes protections, so it's a kind of exploit to bby Aobx - Homebrew General
Supposing I still have Bootmii in system menu 4.3, I could downgrade to 4.1 or 4.2 using Comex Nand Formatter, couldn't I? Is there any other MINI app that I could use too?by Aobx - Homebrew General
You could search for it in wiibrew.org. All legal homebrew stuff is there, almost always there is a guide too, or some tips on how to use a certain homebrew. It's pretty simple, give it a try.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Soundlogic, since you're so curious, TC means "topic creator", it's not a technical term. Just a shorter way to refer to the one who created the topic. By the way, to which point having a modchip is legal?by Aobx - Homebrew General
Is it unlikely or uncertain if a new sd card exploit (no game needed) will ever show up?by Aobx - Homebrew General
Unfortunately, TC doesn't have Bootmii/boot2. Apart from this case, wouldn't mini applications be able to bypass that protection Waninkoko created? For example, Comex's Nand Formatter could restore things anew.by Aobx - Homebrew General
I've been reading about that firmware updater. Seems the first one for 4.3 was bugged, then a "4.3b" version was released, fixing the previous bugs. You updated through the first 4.3 updater?by Aobx - Homebrew General
As SifJar told you, the game IOS is the only one needed to run the game, but it's not the only update contained in a disc. The system menu forces you to accept the other updates, while Gecko OS doesn't, so you can run your game without the unecessary updates (for the game in evidence). Unfortunately, I think there's no salvation for your black screen, since it would require haviby Aobx - Homebrew General
Priiloader is just a matter of running the app and following on-screen instructions. It's pretty simple by now, you shouldn't have a hard time learning how to use it. Just make sure you use hacks for your system menu version. Each one has its own set of hacks.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Bannerbomb has gotten quite a fix, this time. Not sure if Bannerbomb v3 will come, or if another exploit will show up. SSBB is kinda problematic with wii dvd drives, depending of how conserved and clean they are. You can try Indiana Pwns, and load the elf file of Loadmii. Also, if you have a forwarder, you can use it to load homebrew.by Aobx - Homebrew General
The only way to run homebrews without game loading is through Bootmii or Bannerbomb, the first is inacessible to you and the latter is dead on 4.3. I don't think channels can be used to load homebrew, unless they're built for this purpose or they forward to some path. Have you ever tried another sd card and unplugging everything from usb ports and GC slots?by Aobx - Homebrew General
