QuotetissemikkelHow far is we with this project? Hey there, I'm currently hunting down and fixing a few crashes, and starting the graphics. I'll update the Wiibrew wiki page as soon as I can make an accurate estimate for when it will be finished. Once I tidy up the code, I was going to release it in a public SVN on Google Code so that others might be able to work on it to and getby borbzz - Homebrew General
QuotearasiumYou can use the patch of libogc wich allow debugging via wifi (and tools based on gdb). To run your homebrew, you can do that with sendelf or wiiload (instead of put it on your sd) To avoid a crash of your wii, use try/catch in your main to catch all exception and return to the HBC. Will a try/catch throw an exception for things like a NULL pointer being accessed? I'm kindaby borbzz - Coding
Hello all, I'm now at the point where I am trying to track down some crashes that are occurring in my app. The test cycle is excruciatingly slow, and I am wondering if there is any faster way to test my code. How do you guys test/debug your code? Currently, I have to turn on the Wii, launch the HBC, upload my app, watch it crash, hard-reset the Wii, modify my code, and repeat. Do you gby borbzz - Coding
Hi All, Please move this if I am posting it in the wrong category... Does anyone have a good reference for how the Wii works in "Gamecube Mode"? I am pretty unfamiliar with it, but I want to learn as much about it as I can. I want to start investigating if it is possible to independently use Starlet in any way while in a GC game. This probably sounds lame (because I honestly don't kby borbzz - Software
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried with all the VIDEO_Init calls and without, but get nothing. I do know that I eventually need to load a lot of external files, but not before I initialize the video system. I'll try a few more things tonight when I get back to my Wii. (It doesn't help that I can't run the gcube emulator with my crappy Intel graphics chipset.) Thanks agby borbzz - Coding
Hi everyone, First off, I want to thank everyone in this community for answering the questions I keep posting. You guys are really helpful! So, I finally have all the StepMania sources compiling and linking correctly. I get my .elf and my .dol file, which is great. When I launch my app via the HBC, I get a black screen for a few seconds, and then I return back to the HBC. My question now isby borbzz - Coding
Hello everyone, So I ALMOST have Stepmania building with devKitPPC (it was a pain to get a makefile working!). I am now trying to resolve some linker issues that I'm getting. I have a source file that uses the system call rmdir(), which is defined in unistd.h. My linker is complaining that this is unresolved. Is this a known issue, or did I botch something? Thanks for the help!!!by borbzz - Coding
Quotetissemikkel If it won't use the same SIM files i would love to help making stepcharts for it! :D Thanks for the enthusiasm! I'm hoping my port will be compatible with most songs/charts in Stepmania format. If I can't get libvorbis ported to the Wii, then we might be limited to only those StepMania songs in MP3 format.by borbzz - Homebrew General
QuoteTantricThere's lots of things missing from Wii SDL. For joystick input, I would suggest rewriting those portions, since you may want wiimote vs classic controller vs nunchuk control schemes. That's what I was leaning towards too. I'll see how much work it will be when I get closer to implementing the input classes (Right now, I'm still in the process of stripping outby borbzz - Coding
Hello everyone, I'm in the process of porting a game (StepMania) that makes heavy use of SDL (mostly for joystick input). I am trying to determine if it would be better to keep the SDL-dependent code and attempt use the Wii version of SDL, or if I should totally gut out all the SDL code and use libogc. So how mature/stable/reliable is SDL on the Wii? Would I save myself some headacheby borbzz - Coding
Hello everyone, I'm a longtime follower of the Wii homebrew scene, but a first time participant. I've decided to take up porting StepMania to the Wii, and I have made some good progress in the initial investigation. You can see a breakdown of my milestones here: I'm a professional C/C++ programmer by day, but I'm new to Wii homebrew development. Looks like I'llby borbzz - Homebrew General
