Best version of snes9xgx?

I heard that running older versions of snes9xgx makes games like Yoshi's Island and Gradius III run smoother. Is this true? If it is, can someone link me to a recommended old version?

I haven't heard that, it's usually better to have the latest versions.

I've been using snes9x for years now, and I'm pretty sure the performance of Yoshi's Island has only gotten better. Though it's not absolutely perfect, the frameskip is hardly noticeable.

Gradius 3 I'm pretty sure always had horrible slowdown at times, even on the cart.

Besides, the older versions had sound skipping problems that have since been (from what I can tell) completely fixed. I'd rather have a little frame-skip in one game, than skipping sound on all games.
