wii not playing dvds

i got a new wii last week and installing homebrew and dvdx was successful.However when i try to load a dvd from mplayer ce 0.76 it mounts but then i get nothing not even an error message has anyone had this problem.

Is it because the disc drive is newer ?

Yes.

Yes the latest version of the Wii Disc Drive is incompatible with DVDx, because Nintendo changed it a bit to stop it working. It also stopped disc backups working, at least with "softmod", and I think also modchips, so there are upsides to the change in disc drive ;)

Or switch disc drives

How would one go about switching disc drives Arikado is it pretty simple or does it require some moderate to advanced knowledge on the wiis inner workings?

probably not THAT hard, but i'd guess you'd need a little experience with replacing computer parts or whatever. You could buy a bricked wii on ebay cheap, or one that has other bits broken, and just swap the disc drives. or i think you can get replacement drives on deal extreme, but they're out of stock atm, dunno when/if they'll be back in.

Ahh okay so if I've replaced ram disc drives and video cards I probably have enough experience to replace my disc drive?

No. In a PC, you are meant to be able to take the disc drive out. In the Wii, you are not.

So what would I need to know?

Orly? I would assume that Nintendo would make it fairly rudimentary considering they have to replace drives themselves every now and then.
