Help--Disabled Wii

Help--Disabled Wii
December 29, 2008 06:36PM
The problem is that my Wii won't load any games except for Tatsunoko vs Capcom (Launched through Gecko OS).

When I put any other games in the wii makes noise. I start the game (not getting very far), until it tells me there's been an error and I need to take disc out, turn power off, etc. What should I do?

Help will be rewarded with cookies. :D

Are you trying to load other games normally or through gecko os?

I tried both, the other games won't load.

Sounds like you may have semibricked your wii.

Hohoho. I'll try all the savemii stuff they have here then. Thanks.

I had a cookie for you, but I ate it :(

Edit: I read that it's not semi-bricked if you can access the settings, and I can.

What firmware version do you have? If it is below 3.4 then attempt an update. If it is 3.3 or lower find a disc that will update to the next version.

Sorry for double post, but I updated to 3.4 since some said it solved their semi-bricks. The only game that works is still TvC.

try to turn off your Wii AND unplug it! That should reset the Gecko OS

Tried that, still doesn't read any other games. Thanks anyways. Maybe has something to do with TvC being my only japanese game?
I don't know how this happened, since the wii worked perfectly with all the games until a couple of days ago.

Urgh. Gettin desperate.

Sounds like you've changed your Wii's region. Try changing it back using something like Any Region Changer

I went to settings and it says "Ver. 3.4U" so I'm guessing I still have the correct region. Another thing that might have something to do with it is that my brother got De Blob for christmas and this happened a couple of days after he started playing that.

On the GameCube and the Wii this message usually means that the drive encountered many reading errors.
Your drive may be on the way out.

Perhaps the disks are extremely scratched somehow?

Maybe is a problem with the disc drive... Do you have a modchip?
Re: Help--Disabled Wii

what with the noise and all it kinda sounds like what was happening to Wiis when SSBB came out. A good, proper cleaning of the drive may fix the problem. At least that's what Nintendo had said the problem was then. *shrug*

Claims to be produced by Nintendo? Has good reviews regardless.

From stories I've heard, Nintendo never actually turns on the Wii, so sending it in to be cleaned *should* be fine. Just make sure you DON'T have a modchip as they WILL see that.

No modchip. :D
I think I'll try the official cleaner first. If not then I'll send it to Nintendo.

Thanks to all of you for your help!

And happy new year.
