Homebrew Channel and Wii Shop Channel Question

Hi I have a Homebrew Channel version 1.01 and was wondering if it's okay to do the update that was prompted when I access the Wii Shop channel. If I update, will I still be able to use my homebrew channel?

You could, but you could just use this to access the shop channel without the need to update
