got homebrew and now no apps
June 07, 2009 07:20AM
ok i have the homebrew channel on my wii. I is a 3.3ver, i get the channel with the bubbles but when i go to start it flashes the wii boxes and goes back to the main menu. I have my sd card in, with an apps folder and then apps loaded in them that i downloaded. I also can go into the wii browser, after running the twighlight hack and browse around and get apps and download them. then when i reboot the wii the channels are still not showing up under homebrew.

Erm, the apps you download in the browser are not channels. They can only be run from the HBC.

ok, so how do i run them from hbc
Re: got homebrew and now no apps

Well, once you've downloaded them from the homebrew browser (which I'm assuming you were referring to when you said "... wii browser, after running the twighlight hack and browse around and get apps and download them") When you start the homebrew channel, they should just be there ready to click on and launch.

ok thats the problem. I downloaded them , i assume to my sd card, i have a folder called apps on that. but nothing other than the bubbles and the words the homebrew channel on the screen. When i go to start it just flashes the wii boxes across the screen and then goes back to the wii menu

What method did you use to install homebrew? If you used the twilight hack, are you sure you're using the correct save file?

Which version of the Hombrewchannel do you have installed? 1.0.2?

Are you using an SDHC card?

i used the twighlight hack for ver 3.3 and lower. is bannerbomb better? or the hackmii i have done this several times and get the same thing. i am using a 2 gig sandisc sd card. my disc is the 0 one but has jpn at the end of it. should i be using the japan hack?
Re: got homebrew and now no apps

ok i again used the twilight v. 01 beta 1 hack along with hackmii installer 2 beta and now i have the homebrew channel on my wii. I did the hack, walked backwards and it went to the screen where i installed homebrew channel, dvdx and bootmii and when i pressed return to menu i get a black screen and have to unplug my wii from the power. When it boots back up i have the 4 icons, from the bootmii i can toggle thru them with my buttons but when i go to the homebrew channel from there it goes to a black screen and have to unplug wii. If i load wii channels the homebrew is there. this make any sense? now i need to get some apps on there. i installed on boot 2.
would the installer log help at all? is has several failed items in it.

ok so i tried bannerbomb, i also put hackmii on the card. here is what i get.
i load and it says load.elf and i let it do its thing. says i can load homebrew and i do, load dvdx and i do load bootmi on boot 2 and it says complete, when i select return to main menu the screen goes black and nothing happens. if i hold power for a few seconds i can power back up. bootmi menu pops up, i can toggle thru with my power button and then if i select homebrew, screen goes black, if i go to wii menu homebrew is there but no apps. I have an apps folder with my apps in it....so frustrating.

I don't know what the error message means but that doesn't sound good, seems like the IOS used by the Homebrew Channel (IOS60) is corrupted, which would explain why you only got black screen...

anyway, why would you have IOS60 installed since you are on 3.3... Did you installed it yourself ?
Re: got homebrew and now no apps

i have no idea. i used the twighlight hack originally to install homebrew. when i couldnt get it to work right i deleted it and then installed it using bannerbomb with the same results. Is there a way to delet everything and start over? i know i can just delete the homebrew channel. i didnt install any ios by iteself, at least i dont think i did. I dont even know what that does.

You're on 3.3 right? Either update to 4.0 or run WiiSCU using Bannerbomb/Twilight Hack and install IOS 60. You dont have it and need it for latest HBC. Dunno why Team Twiizers decided to make HBC run on an IOS only present in the latest firmware, despite the fact that the best firmware right now is 3.2. But installing IOS 60 should fix the problem

thanks a million! ran the ios60 like you said and it works!!! i have the apps showing up now. now i have to find out why in the homebrew browser it says problem checking boot.dol boot.elf when i go to download something.

No problem. Glad it worked. No idea why Team Twiizers made HBC use IOS 60 when only 4.0 has IOS 60, but at least it's an easy fix.
Re: got homebrew and now no apps
June 13, 2009 06:30PM
Well, you had IOS60 installed on your Wii (maybe badly but it was there) and the Homebrew Channel probably always use the higher installed IOS version it detects on your Wii.

As already said, only 4.0 installs IOS 60 normally so if you didn't installed it yourself it means someone else did and messed some stuff during the installation without telling you.

Re: got homebrew and now no apps
June 14, 2009 01:14PM
well, this seems to be a fairly common problem with the latest hackmii installer, maybe there's a bug where it installs using IOS 60 whether it's there or not?
Re: got homebrew and now no apps
June 14, 2009 01:35PM
read its log again: IOS60 was detected on his wii

Quote

Found IOS 60: ES_GetTMDViewSize() failed: -106

there is certainly a bug though because this IOS was still used despite the fact there was an error
However, this kind of thing is not supposed to happen unless you made unofficial updates with your Wii or brutally interrupted system updates, in which case you will be bricked anyway.

I's say it's a common problem with people doing unconsidered stuff with their Wii :-)

well like i said before, i did buy it used so the other person may have done something to it before i got it. I only used the twighlight hack and bannerbomb, when i couldnt get the first to work. I followed this forum to do this so i dont think i did anything "unconsidered". at least i dont think i did! its working right after i did the update sifjar reccomended so that did cure my problem, which i am very grateful for.
