Help! I can't install Homebrew
January 31, 2011 01:51AM
I have my wii updated to 4.3u and tried using the smash stack exploit to install the homebrew channel. I have a US brawl game and a SanDisk 2GB SD card(not SDHC). I have removed all of the custom stages on my wii and the only files that are on my SD card are the private folder(from smash stack) and boot.elf(from hackmii v8). When I try the exploit, my screen always freezes on the "scam awareness" screen. I have waited more than 10 minutes and the "press 1 to continue" still does not appear. Also, the installer notepad says the following:

HackMii v0.8 installer starting up

I'm a complete newb and I don't know what any of this means.
Please help!

P.S. My wii is among the very first ones released if that matters, and I have it not modded in any way (as I am a newb)

hmm. don't connect your Wii remote while the scam warning appears, maybe that'll help

I tried using my GC controller instead of the wii remote and it still stayed at that screen. =(

Thanks anyways.

Try loading Loadmii and then Hackmii installer. To do this, rename boot.elf on the SD card to hackmii.elf, download Loadmii here and put Loadmii.elf and put it on the SD card as boot.elf. Then load hackmii.elf from Loadmii, which will be launched from Smash Stack

ok, so I downloaded the file, and put it in as boot.elf and renamed the original to hackmii.elf. I put in the SD card and entered the custom stage option. the screen went black and then another screen appeared:

:: loadMii 0.4 REBiRTH - Device selection
:: Press
and
to choose between the devices
:: *the options* Internal SD slot/Usb stick/DvD (Requires DVDX)/SD Gecko in slot A/SD Gecko in slot B
:: Inserted : No(the only option that said yes was the Dvd one)

what do I do now?

the log says:

Found IOS 254: revision: 0xff01*

you say you've never done any modding before?

I'm positive I haven't done any modding on my wii

I have downloaded a game off of the wii shop channel though-would that have same something to do with it?

No, that wouldn't have anything to do with it. Hmm... let me think. take Hackmii.elf and put it in a new folder called "elf", delete "boot.elf" (loadmii). Then get and open it. if you don't know how to, get 7zip for Windows and that should open it. then put tp-hack-loader.elf and rename it to boot.elf, and try loading Hackmii.elf that way

This is BootMii IOS. Because he ran the installer multiple times before asking for help, the log will show the asterisk because it has already been replaced with MINI.

That's not MINI, I thought "armboot.bin" in /bootmii was MINI. IOS 254 is just a stub that loads MINI.

That is correct metroid_maniac. But the general idea is the same: IOS254 is BootMii/IOS.

ah yes that's right... sorry. forgot about new HBC install procedures with bootmii/ios.
