Thank you guys :).by badbob - Homebrew General
A friend of mine has some questions but his english is not good enough to ask. So I'm doing the job: What can Nintendo detect when you go online? IOSes installed? IOSes modified (cIOS, Hashsums?) Channels installed? What can they detect when you play online (like Mario Kart)?by badbob - Homebrew General
Fixed with building a new kernel. Used this guide: Downloaded kernel sources (2.6.32 without any other number from the mirros) on the wii. Unpack the kernel into /usr/src/ apt-get install gcc on the wii. cd /usr/bin/ Used the kernel patch on the wii make on the wii make modules_install on the wii Copy the resulting file (wii.img or something) to your computer (with rcp /scp commaby badbob - Wii Linux
Hi guys, Its looking quite good with the Wii Linux Crypto Filesverver. Just the crypto (luks) is making trouble. I can't crypt with luksformat -t ext /dev/sda1 because he told me that the kernel won't support aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 . Error: Failed to setup dm-crypt mapping. More errors from dmsetup targets: Command failed: No key available with this passphrase. dmcrypt targets sby badbob - Wii Linux
@hunterM: I need a crypto server, but thx for you tips ;). @isobel: This sounds great, thx 4 explaining. Can I use then the whole RAM (~70 MB) if I'm using BootMii as IOS launches MINI? If yes then there is nothing, stopping me from creating the ultimate Wii Crypto Storeage Server ;)by badbob - Wii Linux
MIKEp5 v2.6.32 IOS has no USB 2.0 support :(. Is it an error? If not, it is possible to get USB 2.0 working in some way? Without USB 2.0 I can't use the Wii as fileserver. Is there any possibility bootmii gets a USB 2.0 support? Marcan told sometimes he had done a USB 2.0 driver. Can I be added into the bootmii ios? I realy would like to have a cheap eco friendly fileserver :(.by badbob - Wii Linux
Ok but I can't use mini without a vulnerable boot2. Or it is possible?by badbob - Wii Linux
Thank you for the answers :). It was mentioned that the ~50 MB, if they can't be used as RAM at least are useable as SWAP device? Is this correct? This maybe would be enough. I want to do this (a small linux crypto server):by badbob - Wii Linux
I got a 3.4 Wii with the patched boot2 (can't be changed to bootmii). I want to use Whiite linux on the wii. There are different downloads: And different hardware support: Which one to choose? Can I use the mini version? I need USB 2.0 and the 24+50 MB = 70 RAM. If I can't use the RAM+ Version, can I swap file on the SD card help? I just a need a running linux sby badbob - Wii Linux
ok did myself some research. USB 2.0 = 360 MBit/s (thats around 80 MB/s). I think the wii has just 1 usb host so the hard drive and the USB Ethernet adapter share the 80 MB/s. Correct me if I'm wrong. That is no problem sind the Ethernet needs around 12,5 MB/s and the hard drive around 30 MB/s. For the USB 2.0 LAN I'm going to take this one for 20€ from Amazon: Im goingby badbob - Homebrew General
Hi want to use the Wii for as storeage server. The Idea is basicly: Encrycpted HDD in external Case -> USB 2.0 -> WII -> Ethernet LAN -> Switch I want to do it with LUKS and Linux. Is it possible with the current linux version of Linux. I don't got WLAN (for some reasongs). Is there a possibility to use a USB TO Ethernet Converter? Greetz badbobby badbob - Homebrew General
Quotethis is probably the reason why they choose dynamic recompilation in the first place, because it's more efficient and more suitable to this emulator... feel free to correct me if i'm wrong though I think it can't be more efficent (because you do it every time you play the game). But now I understand the problem and it sounds very hard to convert a rom into a power pc executeby badbob - Homebrew Applications
Oh then I misunderstood the text. I have read that they want to recompile the romcode while the emulator is running on the wii. Thank you arikado :)by badbob - Homebrew Applications
Hi Guys, I have one question. The N64 guys like sepp try to runtime recompile the rom data into power pc data to avoid software emulation. And they have trouble because only the 24 MB of the wii RAM are very fast, so they have memory trouble. Why don't they "just" release an app, which compiles a N64 rom into a power pc executeable (with a header for the emulator), on the pc beforeby badbob - Homebrew Applications

I wake up, its my birthday and I see bootmii. Great day. Thank you Team Twizzer :)by badbob - BootMii Beta
Just for my curiosity: with the fuse server and an usb gecko you can access the file system of the wii. it is right? Can you use it for a Backup of the NAND? Maybe with savemii?by badbob - Homebrew General
Which one do nintendo use? boot1, boot2 or ios?by badbob - Homebrew General
Hi I have read at about a backup solution for the NAND. I'm going to "play" with the wii. So it would be realy nice to can restore the nand with a SD card. Is there any software that can do this? Is there maybe a boot disc for the Wii, which can write the dumped NAND Image back to the Wii NAND? This would be great, because you can repair your wii every time you did stupid things^^by badbob - Homebrew General
Hi guys, is there special area where the public keys are stored? Maybe an Adress (like 0x020000 to 0x021000 )? They have to on the NAND and in the RAM, or? Or are they on starlet? Hackmii is not very accurate: Quotehe public keys are stored in various places — these aren’t sensitive, so they don’t really need to be concealed (although at least one of them needs to be protected from modificby badbob - Homebrew General
Hi I have read there are wad files. They are just archives mit with a signature on it. My questions: There is a sign bug strcmp(good_hash, file_hash); Its in boot1 and let you run an other bootloader (YEAH!). There is a fake sign bug, too. How does it work and why is it needed? I have read that you need it to install Channels and IOSes. How does the install work? Why can'tby badbob - Homebrew General
The IOS controlls Starlet. But what happens when 1 ios is loaded that has the file sign bug and an other that has it not? And: The Wad Files cant be installed because the file sign bug was fixed. Its fixed in the 3.4 system menu or the IOS that is installed with 3.4?by badbob - Homebrew General
Ok do you know how the wii decides which is the booting IOS? Is it the newest, the highest version etc?by badbob - Homebrew General
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me :). Is there a documentation about the file system and the boot of the wii? How does the wii "know" which ios it should boot? In Linux you can choose which kernel you want? Does the Wii take the highest IOS Version?by badbob - Homebrew General
Ok its a technicall question: When I write IOS 16 to the NAND Flash, how it is saved? Why does it not replace the actual ios with itself? I mean if I got windows on my pc and install linux, windows is away (when its on the same partition).by badbob - Homebrew General
What do you mean with "install"? Writing data to the flash disk? We can't overwrite the existing ios, which gets started from boot1? The fake signing bug is in boot1 or? The downgrader downgrades the sytem menu to 3.2, but not the IOSs I thought the downgrader installs the IOS 16. And from IOS 16 you can install a custom IOS. And from the custom IOS, you install the 3.2 system menu. Wby badbob - Homebrew General
Ok im curious about technical stuff. A wad file has to signed by nintendo. Fake signing is the terminating 0 (0x00.... hash) bug, or? Why can't you with broadway, just write the wad file on the flash? Does starlet checks every file thats written on the flash drive? I thought the Starlet Code is the ios code. Why can a system menu block wad files? What does firmware mean? The IOS orby badbob - Homebrew General
I have a few questions about the 3.4E and the downgrade? What does a Wad File? Why can't they installed on 3.4? Where is the difference between 3.3 and 3.4 One theoretical question about IOS 16 ( i hope you will not lock the thread because of it): What does IOS not downgrade? Which parts of the system aren't downgraded by the IOS 16 hack.by badbob - Homebrew General
I want to use 3.2E because you can use more Homebrew on it. The IOS 16 Downgrade works, at least most forums say so.by badbob - Homebrew General
Yes but Firmware Version 3.4 realy sux. Is there someone who knows about the notdvdx method? Or maybe even an other?by badbob - Homebrew General
