Does homebrew channel prevent me from updating?

So I installed the Homebrew Channel on my Wii, and It gives me an error code when I try to update it. Is it because of the homebrew channel? I'm just wondering because my mom wants to get a new Wii because we cannot update it.

No, the Homebrew Channel will not prevent you from updating. If you did anything else (such as System Menu hacks or patches) then that's the cause.

Also, please be informed that there is no advantage to updating, and certainly no reason to purchase a new Wii because you cannot update.

Most likely reason why updating fails is IOSCORP which can mess up your system good time. Get DOP-Mii and update all you IOSes to the latest versions, that should solve the issue most likely, and it cannot hurt your system.

This is not correct and would not cause an update to fail with error code.
