Wii games with updates

I'd say the proper term is "update" really. The wii's firmware is really the IOS. An update contains new versions of System Menu and IOS.

Wii Sports can't have anything higher than 2.0, since it was released at the same time as the wii.

where can I see the firmware version of the wii?

Settings menu, first page. If no number in a format like "3.0U" shows up, you have 1.0. Otherwise, that number is your version.

are games firware version dependent? for example does nsmb works only on 4.1+?

No, the [full] updates are not necessary, however sometimes a game needs a certain IOS that comes with the update but you could install that through Gecko OS while skipping the full update. They just put updates on discs so you can update your Wii even if you don't have internet.

so sometimes i still need updates to play a game? where can i download updates that can be use in Gecko OS?

Just run the game with Gecko OS and if it needs an IOS it will ask you to install it; If not, it will just run the game, skipping the update.

Actually, Gecko OS asks you if it's okay if it (Gecko OS) installs the update for you from the disc.
