Having problems getting to work Wiiload

Having problems getting to work Wiiload
November 26, 2010 11:57PM
I had Wiiload working on my Windows Vista PC and I had to reformat the drive.

I'm trying to set it up again and I can't get it to work.

I followed everything I could find about integrating it into the shell so I could just right click on a dol or elf, but noting worked.

A DOS prompt would flash up for a half sec and the disappear before I could read what it said and nothing on the Wii.

I though maybe I was integrating it in the shell wrong, but I tried some of the applications that supposedly do it for you and nothing.

I even found the file I made last time to install the registry edits and it didn't do anything different.

Tonight I figured I would try dropping a dol on the Wiload.exe file directly like it says to do at [wiibrew.org] and nothing different, so at this point I know it is not the shell integration, but something with Wiiload and my network.

I do have the environmental variables set as WIILOAD and my IP address of 192.168.1.195.

My network is working because I can reach the Wii thru FTPii and Filezillia at the same IP address.

I got it set up on my son's Windows XP system, but I can't get it going on my Vista 64bit system.
As I said it was working on this system until I had to reformat my drive.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm really surprised that no one has any suggestions for this problem.
I would think with all the knowledgeable users out there I would get some help on this matter.

Try opening a command prompt in the folder with wiiload in it (in windows vista i believe you can simply right click within the directory in windows explorer, and choose "Open command prompt here") and type "wiiload.exe example.dol" replacing example.dol with the name of a DOL file you have copied to the same folder before hand, and see what errors it gives. May help people. (I have never used WiiLoad, so I may not be much more help)

EDIT: Also, have you restarted your computer since you added the environment variable? Sometimes you need to for the variable to take effect.

I have restarted the computer.
I'll try the other suggestion when I get home.
Thank you.

I just tried what you suggested above and it does work.
So there is something with the integration into the windows shell I must have done wrong.

Let me try a little more.

make it a system variable... not a user one.

that's how it works on my win7 64bit

maybe that'll help... also, do you have the latest wiiload? i seem to recall one not working a while ago.

Not sure how to make it a system variable instead of a User variable, I just right click on my computer, choose properties, then go to Advanced System Settings and click on Environment Variables towards the bottom.

I believe I'm using the latest, it from version 8.

see your image...

click the "new..." button at the bottom under the system variables list...

you added it to the user variables using the "new..." button under the user variables list.

and delete the one from your user variables list.

Sorry still no luck.
This is so frustrating.

I set it as a system Environmental Variable and still just a flash of the command prompt then it disappears.

I have tried using the following for my registry entries, both as is or without the quotes around @=wiiload %1.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dol\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@=wiiload %1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.elf\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@=wiiload %1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wad\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@=wiiload %1"

Yes I was able to run it from a CMD prompt like you suggested earlier.

I just can't get it to run from the shell.

you sure the ip address is correct? maybe it changed?

what if you drag the dol file into the wiiload icon?

what shell are you talking about? Is it programmers notepad? If so, try opening and closing it and that should reset the shell, and maybe it will work.

IP address is correct. It works with FTPII and it works now when I drag a dol to the wilload icon (That didn't used to work).

The Windows Shell.

When I try to right click and "Send to Wii" or choose that from the bar above if a dol is highlighted.

Is wiiload.exe in the path? Try copying wiiload.exe to C:/WINDOWS/system32 and see if it works then.

Yes Wiiload.exe is in the System32 folder.

open a command prompt, NOT in the folder containing wiiload.exe and try typing "wiiload" and then the name of a .DOL, see if that works.

Yes that works and it also works if I paste a shortcut to wiiload on my quick start bar and drop a dol, elf or wad onto it.
It just won't work if I right click and choose Send to Wii or click on the Send to Wii button in the button bar.

It will work as a user environmental variable or a system environmental variable also.

Try removing the "=" from the registry keys, I don't understand why they are there...
Re: Having problems getting to work Wiiload

So after I removed the = from the registry keys so they were like this...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dol\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@wiiload %1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.elf\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@wiiload %1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wad\shell\Send to Wii\command]
"@wiiload %1"
