...a removeable drive? can you explain that a bit better?

EDIT: on the Lines of KNOPPIX the package menu is Synaptic, the same as Ubuntu and also bundled in Mint. anyway, bye as I am going to bed.

TopGun96, if you need help, just contact me on AIM at PyrokineticDew, I'm usually always on but a power surge knocked out the backlight on my usual computer (iMac G4, and thank god I was on a surge protector, eh?) so I have to use another computer to VNC into it, so I'm on AIM sparingly now, but still often

If I were you I'd Burn Ubuntu to a CD then make a USB startup disk. Have you got any USB drives about 2GB?That way you can run Ubuntu from the USB drive. Windows can't do that, can it!

i know i am a noob at linux (heck i didnt even know it was free.)

but now i select " try ububntu without change to your computer " and then i get something like this

ACPI: no DMI BIOS year, acpi=force is required to enable ACPI
IO APIC resources could not be allocated.
Loading, please wait...

so now what? what would happen if i selected install since it is a virtual machine?

i think you should select install because its a virtual machine. because if you're putting windows in a virtual machine, you install it. there is no "live cd" windows, if you boot the install disc you have to install. so I think with a virtual machine you're meant to install. however, i have never used a virtual machine and have only run linux a few times from a live cd.

I have a virtual machine and, assuming you have allocated enough virtual HDD, can install from a virtual Live-CD. It JUST installs to a virtual Hard Drive. Can I see a snapshot of your settings for it, please? If you have about 1GB or above on your virtual Hard Drive, you're good. oh, and while you're running the Virtual Machine, you CANNOT access the computer outside it. You are limited to the virtual Hard Drive, virtual CD drive etc.

What do you mean? Elaborate?
Install from Live-CD mode, it works better.
