I'm thinking that you may be screwed. Then again, that is what one should expect when installing cIOScrap/DarkCrap. Still, I assume you would like to at least try to fix this. Therefore, let's see what we can do. I assume that no applications (DOP-Mii, WAD installers, or anything else) can install anything, but contents will uninstall normally. Is that correct? 1) The semi brick is easily avoided 2) Korean wiis are bricked by installing 4.2+ E/U/J. Again, this can be easily prevented.by jbc007 - FixMii
Any brick can be fixed this way, provided any one of the following conditions is true: 1) The wii has boot1b or older 2) A working NAND dump from the bricked wii is available 3) The bricked wii's keys are known There are guides available. QuoteAxelIf you follow the steps I provided you, it will be enough to delete any WAD you had installed (unofficial channels, which you surely have because you have WAD Manager), and then with the update it will overwrite all those cIOS you have installed. I am unaware of any specific cause of this problem. As far as I can tell, it happens randomly (it wouldn't be the only random sort of brick either), not necessarily because of piracy applications. If you want an example of a brick caused by piracy, take a look at this (that guy spends most of his time on a wii piracy forum, by the way).by jbc007 - FixMii
I would have expected the problem to occur on all system menus too, but I can't think of any other explanation for why maintenance mode would work. Anyway, glad you got it fixed.by jbc007 - FixMii
The only thing that will remove Bootmii is the boot2 update, so it is completely safe to use essentially any homebrew application for any purpose (including NAND formatter and such). However, you should not perform the official update for this reason. Since maintenance mode works, it is likely that you have corrupted message board data. Perform a format through the settings and see if that fby jbc007 - FixMii
For his purposes, it is irrelevant if any homebrew is left (with a few possible exceptions that I will describe below). No homebrew needs to be removed before updating. However, I don't want to give him the false impression that formatting is actually beneficial, especially since it would delete data that he likely wants to keep. Restoring a NAND backup with Bootmii/IOS is a bad idea. If anything goes wrong, your wii will be fully bricked. Therefore, it is recommended that you only restore a NAND backup if you have Bootmii/boot2. If you cannot install Bootmii/boot2, you may want to consider another option. If you still want to take the risk, you must use a gamecube controller to press the four buttons. If you stiby jbc007 - BootMii Beta
@Axel: The method you describe only removes what is visible to the average user (patched IOSes may or may not be removed by this, depending on each particular IOS). Depending on what was installed, this may do practically nothing. @Dale: There is no need to remove all traces of homebrew unless you are sending your wii to Nintendo for a repair. I found this guide in a heavily piracy infested place, so I would publicly provide a link. However, some of the links in the guide don't appear here, and I don't have time to fix that. Bannerbomb is an exploit to allow you to run unsigned code. If serves no purpose if you already have the Homebrew Channel. Just install IOS 58 and then run the Hackmii Installer to reinstall the HBC.by jbc007 - Getting Started
You should install IOS 58 before installing the Homebrew Channel. Otherwise, you will need to reinstall the HBC after installing IOS 58 for USB 2.0 support. IOS 36 most certainly is not found on 3.1 or previous updates (usually). Though, it can easily be installed with DOP-Mii. Use Forwarder Creater to create a forwarder DOL to the desired application's executable (.dol or .elf file). Then use CustomizeMii to create the channel, using the forwarder you just created as the .dol file for the channel.by jbc007 - Homebrew Applications
A main part of the issue is that companies are practically "asking" for people to pirate their stuff. Consider that a wii costs about as much as four games. At the cost of a wii game, I, for one, would not pay retail price unless I knew for a fact that I was really going to like the game. For this reason, I only own three games (not including Wii Sports), and I only have the third because it cby jbc007 - Offtopic

Although very unlikely, it is possible that you have message board data corruption (this could cause the system menu corruption, but not the issue with the homebrew channel). If this is the case, you will be able to access maintenance mode. If this is not the case, you have two options. Either wait for a game with the 4.4 update (this will probably be quite awhile) and use SaveMii/SaveMiiFby jbc007 - BootMii Beta
QuoteAxelIn that very unlikely case, your Wii would end up fully bricked, and impossible to restore. Actually, in this case, it could be fixed with a hardware NAND programmer. In any case, installing Bootmii/boot2 is safer than a system update.by jbc007 - Getting Started

Any improvement in IOS 58 may affect the Homebrew Channel, but since SSBB uses IOS 36, a change to IOS 58 could not make any difference to it. However, IOS 36 was updated as well. Something was clearly wrong with IOS 36 on your wii, so that is why it now works.by jbc007 - Getting Started
QuoteMagilThere are, however, dangers to installing channel forwarders with WAD format, like bannerbricking. It is STRONGLY advised you take the proper protective steps before attempting to install forwarders. If you had a NAND backup, you could have flashed it to the NAND with a hardware NAND programmer. You can delete any channels you want. They can always be reinstalled if you want them back. You will have to delete those manually. It is easiest to do this with AnyTitle Deleter (AnyTitle Deleter leaves something behind on the wii, but this does not matter unless you send the wii to Nintendo). Otherwise you could find a WAD of these channels and uninstall them with a WAD installer.by jbc007 - FixMii
I think I heard that Metroid Other M has 4.3 (or maybe that was 4.2, it does not matter in your case). Information regarding SaveMii can be found at [savemii.net].
