Sorry for bumping an old thread but. Whenever I set my wii to widescreen mode some games such as COD:WAW or RE4:wii (which still looks great, imho) start showing up in a stretched/squished wide screen format. This does not happen with homebrew games. How is this effect achieved/enabled?by owen - Coding

Kinda quiet around the testing boards. Anyone interested in testing a early pre-pre-release version of the game?by owen - Testing Corner

@scanff yeah its pretty slow but not as slow as the DS lol. I find that it hates having loops in loops. just posted a game hes doing in ps3. I'm staying far from complicated multiprocess systems, I do have the time to learn all that jazz. @tueidj cool, i'm looking forward to that one you posted in the video. never got a chance to finish that game.by owen - Coding
Maybe all the games that can be quickly ported to the wii have already been done. Most genres are covered except for Role playing, Racing and online multiplayer shooting games ( but these may require too much work to complete).by owen - Coding
QuoteSifJarQuoteowen @sifjar you are telling me that a billion dollar company like nintendo cannot afford to keep 500 games at 40mb max per game on a server for 5 years? Seriously? Nintendo makes the rules, they know why they set them that way. If this rule was not in place, there would most likely be more than 500 games of pathetic quality that make no profit. I think the rules are whatby owen - Coding
Here are 2 other games by a popular wiiware developer and I would not say there are shitty games - I would not buy them but they have a market - they deserve thier money as quickly as possible so they can make more games. I do not know why they insist on having MOTION ONLY CONTROLS!. I think it must be a rule or something. I can bet money on it!by owen - Coding
It more a case of being annoyed by it. I'm fresh out of links to wii devs, nobody is blogging in the summer, follow me on or in the fall.by owen - Coding
QuoteSifJarYou have to remember that Nintendo have costs too. They can't afford to host a game if it's not going to sell well and be profitable. Its nintendos fault for making a shitty service that nobody cares about. Oh of the 3 online stores the wiiware store is the the worst by far, people complain about it all the time. @sifjar you are telling me that a billion dollar compaby owen - Coding
@tueidj even if you take 1 day to make a game - even a shitty game you still deserve income and if you read the article carefully those guys are not just making one game, they often have multiple games in production at the same time while they are waiting for money to pay the bills. Because there are NO mario, zelda or metroid WIIWARE games therefore no "regular nintendo customer" is drawn to tby owen - Coding
I don't think its about reducing shovelware I think they wanted to just limit the amount of payments they had to make out to small companies. Wiiware is definately a hidden feature of the wii console. It is a old rule there had in place to reduce the chance of a user running out of space on the wii by limiting the average size of the game. I'm sure they did the math and the statisticby owen - Coding

I will probably do something new for scenery beta if I think of something before the end date. And also lots of homebrewers jumping to Android and Iphone development for the income benefits.by owen - Coding
It is a bit late in the wii homebrewing lifecycle, I realised this even back in decmember but I like when everything is nice and stable. There seems to be a constant stream of stuff coming in for the DS/DSi. The NMax compo finished recently and the scenebeta competition is starting. If you look at the history there are certainly less "people" doing stuff, This might be because there are moreby owen - Coding
@wilco2009 I'm not worried, in fact I am close to 10mb already which is mostly mp3s and pngs. But I'm considering low bandwidth people. @titmouse I don't really see the logic in it but i can only assume that it has something to do with server space, quotas, user expectancy, 512mb, quality control and similar "evil corporation" tactics that exist only to keep the money in theirby owen - Coding
seems like 16mb it is. according this;by owen - Coding
I have no idea how the lights work, I'm using the grrlib framework with no lights. So I cannot help with that.by owen - Coding
try changing the vertex color or the texture. The texture often hide the color that is below it.by owen - Coding
I was working on some Lua stuff over the weekend and I noticed that whenever I got a crash screen I would see that the data that printf() is out putting about the debug string. More than likely something is wrong with my console video code or a GRRLIB setting is causing it not to output. Either way at least I know now that its not the printf(). :)by owen - Coding
@AlfredMantalini hmmmm. I draw all the cube faces first. then, I draw the wire frame cube + 1 scale around it. So basically they are almost separate entities. I don't even know why I need normals when I am just drawing a line in the first place. I'll try drawing the lights last and see how that looks.by owen - Coding
That's all well and good but I just want the hard-coded numbers because i won't be changing them anytime soon. The normal numbers for quads are easy to find online but I need normals for a wireframe cube.by owen - Coding
I was progressing nicely until I added a light and my lines started drawing incorrectly. Then I realised that I need to add normals to them but my normals are incorrect and I can't figure out the right combination I need (I search google as well but I already have the normals for the cube working perfectly but they don't work for these lines.) However the line cube draws perfectly asby owen - Coding
Yeah its taking longer than I though but in the mean time you can keep up to date on the game on my new dev blog:by owen - Testing Corner
buy the oldest wii you can find but I guess that will probably be difficult depending on where you are in the world. It may be easier to buy a used wii, a display wii or if you are lucky get them to turn it on and check before you buy it, But it most cases you going to get the lastest version if the store gets regular shipments of new consoles.by owen - Getting Started
Tried setting a range[255], hmmmm, still doesn't work. I even tried searching snesgx and grrlib source and they don't seem to use it for %s either. hmm...I guess I'll have to skip leave this for some other time. Thanx for your help Titmouse.by owen - Coding
I know that it the string is there, because the file load that I do after works perfectly, I just want to print what I'm loading at the moment on the screen. Its not crucial, mostly for debugging the lua scripts. I have 2 more things that I am going to try this evening before I give up on it all together.by owen - Coding
Tried that too, doesn't work. seems to be something specific with the wii because I can't find anybody have any problem with it on the internet. latest:by owen - Coding
Nope, still doesn't printf the line. I declared a const char variable and it still doesn't work. Once the I put the %s into the format string it doesn't print anything.by owen - Coding
OMG that looks annoying. Going to try it later and see if that solves the problem.by owen - Coding
