Need help with bootmii install

Need help with bootmii install
July 17, 2009 10:33PM
I have an older wii that was upgraded to system menu 4.1u.

I was successfully able to install HBC.

I believe that DVDx installed properly, but I have not tested it.

I installed bootmii as boot2 and IOS.

During the install of bootmii as boot2, it put the necessary files on the SD card and said that it wrote to blocks 3 and 4.

When I boot my wii, it goes straight to the system menu (normal screen) and does not seem to load bootmii.

When I open the HBC and press the menu button, I have an option for bootmii. If I select bootmii, the screen goes blank, flickers and then goes back to HBC.

What should I do to get bootmii working properly?

Thanks.

Try uninstalling both and then just installing boot2 and see if boot2 works.
Scratch that for now.

What kind of an SD Card are you using?

Using a Lexar SD 2GB card. I looked at the compatibility list and it said that one was compatible.

Try uninstalling BootMii IOS and see if boot2 will work for you.

I tried just doing boot2 first. That did not work.

Then I uninstalled boot2 and reinstalled boot2 and installed ios. Neither one works.

I tried uninstalling boot2 and ios and reinstalling boot2. That does not work either.

I have not tried ios by iteself. I will try that now and let you know, but I really wanted it as boot2 so I can do backup/restores.

I removed boot2 and installed just the ios. That actually worked!!!

However, I don't have a GC controller, so I can't do anything with it.

I uninstalled ios and went to reinstall boot2 and got a system crash: Exception (DSI) Occurred! - Then it printed out a bunch of memory locations and registers.

I will try and install boot2 again after a hard reboot.

Ok. I removed boot2 and did a hard reset of the wii.

I installed boot2 again. Still does not seem to work.

One thing to mention is that the drive light does flash when booting. From what I understand, this means that bootmii is installed as boot2.

Any other suggestions?

hmmm very peculiar... first delete the folder called "bootmii" off of sd card
i would then uninstall bootmii altogether and turn off wii once done uninstalling. then i would turn it back on and run the hackmii installer.
then install bootmii as boot 2 and then turn it off again once it is done installing turn back on and see if bootmii screen pops up.
if not come back and tell us what happened.

Same results. :(

I can post a copy of the installer.log file if that is helpful. Is there any information that should be removed from it prior to posting?

Thanks.

ahhh.. Here enlies the problem. Remove the folder called bootmii on your sd card. Then reinstall bootmii boot2.
To me it looks like your bootmii required files were not written correctly. Let us know the results!

Re: Need help with bootmii install

So when you turn on the wii it will just boot the regular system menu? Well..... Unfortunately I believe you will have to backup all of the contents on the sd card to your computer and then format the sd card (probably to FAT 16) then retry the install.
Hope this works!!!
Re: Need help with bootmii install
July 18, 2009 05:37AM
Correct. I don't have anything on the SD except for a few HB apps and the bootmii stuff, so that is not a problem. The card was formatted as FAT32 when I started, but I will try as FAT16. I will post the results when I get them.

Thanks for the help so far.

No problem just trying to help
Re: Need help with bootmii install
July 18, 2009 07:09PM
I reformatted the SD card as FAT16.

I copied over the following:

boot.elf
private (entire directory)
apps/homebrew_browser
apps/mplayer_ce

I removed boot2 and rebooted the wii.
I installed boot2 and after writing to NAND and reporting Success, the wii locked up.
I rebooted the wii. After power on the disk try light flashes a few times (indicating that boot2 is installed).
However, it just goes to the saftey warning and then system menu.

The installer.log file show as being 3KB in size, but when I open it, it is empty.

I will try the process again...

Here is the latest...

I reformatted the SD card as FAT16.

I copied over the following:

boot.elf
private (entire directory)
apps/homebrew_browser
apps/mplayer_ce

I removed boot2 and rebooted the wii.
I installed boot2 and rebooted the wii. (No lockups this time.)
On power-on, the drive flashes a few times and the safety warning comes on.
Press A and then system menu comes up.

Sounds like your SD Card isn't compatible with BootMii. Try copying over the bootmii folder from the SD Card you're using now to a different SD Card. Insert the new SD Card in your Wii and see if bootmii boot2 works.
