I'm not sure why my previous topic was locked, the only person who even mentioned doing anything illegal was bg4545, but his statement was purely a speculation about my intentions... so I'm a bit confused by that one. Anyway, since my lack of specification has caused whatever happened in the last thread to happen, I will give ALL the details of why I need to know what sort of USB devby Kammesennin - Homebrew General
Quotebg4545FYI, methods of loading Wii games off of USB devices are not suported here. I wasn't aware of that, but regardless I'm not asking for methods of doing it, just compatible devices eg... jump drives, or usb card readers (for other types of cards than SD) or anything else I could possibly use on the Wii. And SifJar, I have tons and tons of games/programs etc. that I use onby Kammesennin - Homebrew General
Hey, just out of curiosity since the only device I have aside from a keyboard is an IDE HDD and an IDE to USB adapter for it... (which doesn't seem to work on the Wii) What types of USB devices are compatible with most of the HomeBrew applications out there? I only have a 2gb SD card, and I'm not really into loading from DVD if I don't have to, so I'd love to know what my otheby Kammesennin - Homebrew General
Quotesolareus Gradius III is almost unplayable due to the constant swarm of enemies on screen. I've noticed this issue on other action games. I'm just curious why the Wii is struggling to run an SNES game... And I am positive this is not the same level of slowdown found on the original cart. I know Gradius III becomes nearly unplayable due to slowdown on the actual cart, particularlyby Kammesennin - Homebrew Applications
Thanks, I'll look into that. And besides there being next to nothing I could take from doing Wolfenstein and apply to Quake 3, I kind of want to make my own port anyway. I know someone else already did, but maybe I can find a few things to do with my port that weren't done in the other one.by Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
Have you tried booting without an SD card inserted?by Kammesennin - FixMii
No no no, I'm simply saying the first MAJOR thing I'll try is Wolfenstein, I'm not jumping ahead of the smaller steps... It's not the first language I've ever tried to learn, I know I have to keep it small at first to be sure I grasp all of the concepts of the code, and how to apply them. Just... once I get the hang of it, and have a fair understanding of it all, and haveby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
QuoteArikadoQuoteKammesenninI think I'll maybe start with my own port of Wolfenstein 3D after going through the tutorials. Uhm, I think you should start with "Hello World". Yes, that is always the first or second tutorial to any language, which I did say I was doing the tutorials first. EDIT: Perhaps you thought I meant tutorials to porting Wolfenstein? If so, my apologies... miscommunicatiby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
Quotejsmaster If you haven't programmed in C/C++ before, you probably shouldn't start with something as big as porting Quake 3. First, get a good book, or online tutorial, and really learn C/C++. Then, when you know you're way around, you can move on to bigger things. I've been waiting for that one, don't worry, I'll try some other things and familiarize myself witby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
Would it make a difference if the game were actually played off a disc instead of the SD card?by Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
Is there no way to force the Wii to load the GameCube AR using a homebrew loader?by Kammesennin - Homebrew Applications
QuoteArikadoQuoteKammesenninHe has system menu 4.1 actually, so I was surprised to see anything happen at all. You do know that all homebrew (except *barf* themes *orange barf*) works fine on 4.1, don't you? Had no idea, just noticed people complaining things weren't working after updating... should've looked further into those topics before posting.by Kammesennin - Homebrew General
QuotejsmasterAccording to wikipedia, the requirements for Quake 3 are: 3D graphics accelerator with full OpenGL support, Pentium II 233 MHz or AMD 350 MHz K6-2 processor or Athlon processor, 64 MB RAM, 8 MB video card, 500 MB of free hard drive space, 100% DirectX 3.0 or higher compatible sound card, CD-ROM drive (600 kB/s sustained transfer rate). Quotescanff Also all of the GL would need to be ported to GX. Is that what was done with the Wii port of Quake? If so, maybe in the source for the port one can see how this process was completed. And considering the content for Quake 3 is not open source... couldn't one... wait nevermind, the 3d models aren't even included in the source, everything basically would have to be re-creby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
Try to find out what the error means. Maybe google will yield some answers?by Kammesennin - Homebrew General
I couldn't call myself a full-fledged programmer, but I do have some knowledge and would be willing to tinker around with stuff and test it out... if I brick, I've got bootmii installed as boot2 and already backed up the NAND, so I should be good. Also, I just went to a buddy's house, and booted Doom on his Wii (was trying to install HBC using the bannerbomb method, but I forgotby Kammesennin - Homebrew General
Well... I've not done a whole lot with C++ (I've done Graal script work before, which is similar), but I do know VB, and QBasic (lol). Are the ports of say... Quake and Doom open source that anybody knows? If I could get a look at the code to get an idea how they were done, perhaps I could figure out a way to get Quake 3 on the Wii.by Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
It seems as if to be. On Id Software's tech site they mention a free GPL and source code. Glad to hear Quake engine was ported rather than emulated :) God, I would love to see this game come to the Wii! EDIT: Maybe networking could be done as well? Some mod support, etc... EDIT 2: Downloaded source, 5.45MB. Not sure if it matters or not, but I found a makefile in there. Some pretty coolby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
The Wii could certainly handle Quake III could it not? I realize we haven't even attempted Quake 2 as of yet, but wouldn't it be cool to bring such an awesome game to the Wii controller? Maybe somebody has already tried this and I'm just unaware, but the only thing I can find relating Quake III to the Wii is a video on youtube of some guy playing on his PC using some odd gyro contrby Kammesennin - Ideas, requests
So there is nothing I can do console-side to fix this? I should've assumed that anyway, but thank you very much! Is there anything pc-side I can do to correct this mistake, or is the solution you gave the only one? Oh, and thanks very much for the quick response!by Kammesennin - Homebrew General
Hello, I'm sure you can tell, but I'm new to the whole HomeBrew scene. I successfully installed the HBC, and bootmii was installed as boot2 I'm happy to say! I got the HBB and everything is fine, but when I go to play a title such as Doom or Quake, my nunchuck doesn't quite work right. I have tested it on typical Wii applications (Zelda, Mario Galaxy, SSBB, etc...) and theby Kammesennin - Homebrew General
