There is no such current thing as a custom IOS. There are several slightly modified (hacked) IOSes. "Custom" is misleading marketing started by waninkoko. You'll notice that PatchMii isn't called "PatchMii cIOS". That's because only wanky uses that term for modified IOSes. Calling wanky's stuff "custom" is like calling your car "custom" just because you stuck a bumper stickby marcan - Software
I did say that it isn't necessarily a good idea.by marcan - Software
QuoteMuzerQuoteWha? Of course it can be done. Whether it's a good idea is debatable. I was under the impression that it was completely triggered by the system menu itself, and a custom IOS alone could not prevent it. There are two ways it can. You can change some files in NAND (the way libogc does right now when returning to menu) to use the "channels animation" instead of the warning screenby marcan - Software
I believe the way you do this is by rendering onto the EFB normally and then, instead of copying to XFB (GX_CopyDisp), you copy to a texture (GX_CopyTex). Look at GX_SetTexCopySrc and Dst too. I don't know the details but that's the general idea. Then you can use that texture as part of your normal render cycle afterwards. You can also copy the same EFB to both XFB and a texture, so youby marcan - Coding

This has been gone over zillions of times now. You can't use modified discs if you updated your Wii - especially not with the new update. There's a big fat warning on the wiki about not updating. This has nothing to do with HBC. Nothing is "wrong" with your wii. Use an original Zelda and the twilight hack to install HBC again. Most homebrew will still work fine. "hacking" stuff willby marcan - FixMii
As it turns out, this happens when you've got so many titles (VC or disc, doesn't matter) that it overflows an array. That means over 400 at least. The only plausible explanation for that is that you're both compulsive pirates. I'm not going to waste time on this crap.by marcan - The Junkyard
In other words: this is no IOS weirdness, this is much greater overall system weirdness. Something is really wrong.by marcan - The Junkyard
There's no point in "emulating" VC/WiiWare on the Wii (other than a misguided attempt at a new way of pirating them). Closing.by marcan - Homebrew Applications
The Wiishop / IOS51 install isn't "modified" firmware. It's a partial update. The october 23 update isn't one "update" - it's a bunch of stuff delivered at once. The Wiishop / IOS51 installers just install the parts needed to get WiiShop to work and not the rest. If you use that and then use the normal Wii updater you'll get exactly the same result as if you used the norby marcan - Homebrew General

No, don't do that. Instead, take a picture of the screen when that message comes up and post it.by marcan - The Junkyard

I don't think I ever GPLed the nandloader (I did GPL the apploader - it's based on a GPL one). It was only ever used for the original April Fool's 10-minute demo pseudo-homebrew-channel thing. Then we scrapped it, but apparently now it's in every "homebrew" channel out there - in particular all of the ones that steal the banners. Kinda sad that they even had to "steal" our nanby marcan - Homebrew General
You used one of the available installers to install the partial new update to use the shop, but your system was too old to begin with, so now the newest IOS is one of the new ones but NOT the one required for the new workaround, so it doesn't work. Update using a recent game disc (anything from Mario Kart onwards should work).by marcan - Homebrew Applications
QuotewhodaresWhoa, did I read that right? Can you make a channel without needing to make a WAD? Do you not need a WAD to install content? If that's the case, I'm not bothered about WADs ;-) That's entirely correct. The only reason we use a WAD built in to the installer for the homebrew channel is because we already had a handy dandy WAD packing tool from our previous update disc exby marcan - Feedback & Support
Okay, I think I figured this out. As it turns out, the 2.x uses different "SaveMii mode" code. Nothing on the screen is normal - they don't touch the screen. However, the important bit is that on 2.x they do check for a diagnostic disc before installing updates. That means that, to get rid of a 2.x "opera brick", you'll need a modchip and a game disc with a newer update which is also paby marcan - FixMii
Apparently 2.x have a different behavior. It still does something so common sense says it should still be useful, but I need to have a look at 2.x to figure out what the differences are.by marcan - FixMii
Firefox is a pretty bad memory hog which isn't going to run well on the Wii. You're better off trying to port WebKit.by marcan - Homebrew General

Maintenance mode disables a bunch of WC24 stuff, so it has effects on channels that use WC24. Those banners are scripted using a bytecode VM that Nintendo seems to call CHANS (and that no one has reverse engineered yet), that provides a scripting system (it looks like it might be similar to javascript, at least in its object model) that is used to modify banners at load time and show info obtaineby marcan - Software
truchasigning also known as fakesigning is a technique to make fake signatures that pass verification due to a bug. These are used all over the place - channels, games, etc. This has nothing to do with modchips. All homebrew software that is loaded by an official method (discs or channels) must be fakesigned. Nintendo fixed the bug with the IOS30 revision that came with system menu 3.3, but thatby marcan - Homebrew General
Actually, no, the ticket doesn't hash any data. Although I haven't examined the SD channel backup format, this sounds like it could be a valid idea. However, I'm pretty sure the channels are also signed with the Wii's private key (on SD), and I'm not sure if it will accept any valid Wii cert or only its own. And of course, this is useless on 3.3 with no fakesigning bugby marcan - Homebrew General
I don't think anyone knows the DAC chip's real capabilities. However, we only know how to configure the pixelclock to fixed values for 480i and 480p (and 576i). There has to be a PLL to create that clock, but we do not know whether it is configurable or not or how to configure it. On top of that, the video output hardware of the hollywood might have screen size limits. A whole bunch ofby marcan - Homebrew General
