Quotedaniel_c_wWe are talking about using the system menu to copy the channel to sd card, right? Wouldn't the channel be signed and/or encrypted witch keys only found on your wii? Therefore it can't be copied from one Wii to another. (Otherwise the Twilight hack would have been rather useless :D) lol, yeah, good call. I was thinking save games. I need a holiday. @KSDC, Do you noby whodares - The Junkyard
That's the same System Menu I'm on, so my copy should be fine. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, but if you think about it, Nintendo aren't just going to let you play copied games without a mod chip, otherwise piracy would be in abundance. I bought a second hand Twilight Princess because it was cheap and let me run the hack :-)by whodares - The Junkyard
They sound about right. Don't forget, you're working off the SD card, which is typically slower than hard drives, NAND and RAM etc.by whodares - Homebrew Applications
QuotekkrolI had it nearly working, and then accidently reformated my sd card, so it was all lost. You keep your source code on your SD card too? With no backups? QuotekkrolI am not going to redevelope it, because it was so hard for me, but i suggest someone else begin to make it. If anything it would be easier a second time, as you already know what you need to do and will have found code sourby whodares - Homebrew Applications
I'm not going to answer the first post, because they are just stupid questions. As for copying the channel once installed. I can copy it off my Wii for you to try and install. It will depend on what versions of IOS and the System Menu you have installed whether you are allowed to copy it back to the Wii. If I rememeber tonight, I'll copy it and upload it somewhereby whodares - The Junkyard
Just because something is free, doesn't necessarily make it legal to obtain copies. The japanese will acquire a license when they download the product via the Wii Shop. Regardless of whether it is free or not, they have been granted that license, you haven't. If all you want to do is look at it, search for a review or YouTube video or something. Kaillera is good in theory (yes, it only sends controls across the network). However, I was playing MAME Killer Instinct on a LAN with my friend, and it still dropped packets, so I ended up playing one game, and he was waiting for me to enter my name. lol There are two ways I can think this could be done reliably, keeping the games in sync. 1. Quotedaniel_c_wYou are only targetting the last sentence of a paragraph and therefore seeing it out of context. That sentence only shows some possible results. What Nintendo may (and will) do is clearly detailed in the previous sentence: " may take steps to disable or delete any unauthorized software..." You have verbs ("take", "delete") that implie actions, as opposed to the one ("may be") thby whodares - Homebrew General
Quotedaniel_c_wQuoteWe may take steps to disable or delete any unauthorized software, services or device installed in your Wii Console, for example, by detecting and disabling them through the Wii Network Service and/or game software. If we detect unauthorized software, services, or devices, your access to the Wii Network Service may be disabled and/or the Wii Console or games may be unplayable.by whodares - Homebrew General
You don't use WadManager to install homebrew. You copy it to the SD card and let the Homebrew Channel start it for you. Edit: Oh, and updating to system menu v3.4 doesn't mean you have to update homebrew to DOL's, that was HBC Beta 9by whodares - The Junkyard
Mii Extractor is safe. It just reads the data from your Wii and sticks it on your SD card. Mii Importer is less safe, if you've fiddled about with the actual Mii data outside Nintendos intended parameters, you could break things.by whodares - Homebrew Applications
Well, basically, it redirects the API requests that open, read, seek, and close the banner files down the USBGecko. A script on the PC will check if the file exists locally, and send that back, if not, it'll send a note back telling the Wii to process it normally. I've not seen the code for the Wii menu booter, but the whole package works well. Kudos to comex :-) I'm currentlby whodares - Homebrew General
All homebrew I've seen is 640x480 (as far as I can remember). Not sure why there hasn't been support for a true full screen like official Wii games (unless you can, and I just don't know how, or it's in the CVS version I don't have)by whodares - Coding
With thanks to comex last night, I've now got a way to test banners on my Wii... The script still needs a bit of fixing (this is an issue with me using Windows, we needed to replace sections of code). I'm hoping, down the line, comex might modify the menu loader dol to find the addresses to patch, rather than hard code. Then I could merge the code into my banner tools, and you couldby whodares - Homebrew General
You don't "need" codes, you would "like" codes. Have you checked the USBGecko codes site?by whodares - Offtopic

comex posted a msg saying he's made an app to load banners from a USBGecko, so I'll be taking a look at that first, if not I'll use GeckoOS to "reboot" into the System Menu, with some patches ala Tona's. @icefire: We'll see how these other two ideas pan out first, as they won't require any installation of a new IOS. @icefire: So you did. I apologise. My mind does get rather scattered. I'm pretty sure I read the caching business somewhere, although I can't find where now. The disc banner is shown pretty quickly when booting up the Wii or after a reboot, nothing like the time when you newly insert the disc. Maybe I'm wrong. Edit 1 Ahhh... I've got it! Perfect test ground... In the same way you can copy channels to the SD card, we could make a bogus content.bin that just contained the banner file. It would only test the smaller icon banner, but it's a start... If it crashes the Wii, the SD card can be removed, and no harm done (as I'm pretty sure it won't bother to cache them on the NAND) Hmmm, might sby whodares - Homebrew General
Odd. I always saw the benefit to open source being when the program is in development. When it's finished, what's the point in having the source? It's already complete. Esp' with the banner tools, it's not like the project would need porting, or could "go anywhere"... Once it's done, it's done. Moving on to the stub loader is one possible solution. I have another project that I do flick to from time to time. It works to a degree. I don't have a mod chip, so DVD+RW's are out. Also, didn't I read somewhere that the Wii can cache the disc banner on the console, so if it goes wrong, you might still semi-brick the Wii. In a way, this makes me really reserved on keeping thisby whodares - Homebrew General
I was wondering about something. I'm trying to think of ways to test banners without bricking, and I thought I'd ask if this was possible. We take a copy of an existing IOS, modify the /dev/fs driver to redirect to /dev/sdio/slot0? So instead of reading the NAND, it would read your SD card? Then you could mirror your NAND filesystem onto an SD card, use GeckoOS or something to "reby whodares - Software
