It happens when the update is writing to boot2, if there is any interruption (power loss, wifi loss, etc.) during the process the update will hang and when the Wii is rebooted there isn't a complete set of instructions on boot2 for it to know what to do.
Thus your Wii becomes as usefull as a brick.

So they download and install the new boot2 at the same time? Why not download the file, THEN install/write to boot2?

guys is there some way of updating without having the deleting of awesomeness since id rather have a wii that looks like 4.2 than keep it as 4.1 and wait for a retard to update it "accidentally" afterwhich i pound his brains out

Use the parental control to password the system update function.

Reinstalled the Homebrew Channel on my 4.2 Wii.

...now what?
